About the Journal

The Bulgarian Numismatic Journal (BulgNJ, ISSN 2815-4827) is an open access peer-reviewed edition. It is the first journal of its kind for numismatics in Bulgaria and the neighbouring region, offering exclusive online content to its authors and readers. The initiative for its creation goes back to December 2019, when on a meeting of the editorial team the general vision and mission of the journal were established: to popularize the numismatic research about Southeastern Europe, providing to Bulgarian and international experts a free accessible online platform, in accordance with the high-quality scientific and publication standards.

Aims and Scope

The journal is aiming to advance the numismatic research focused on the region of the Balkan Peninsula and Southeastern Europe, where Bulgarian lands build the natural geographic core. Since the underlying historicle political or economic processes include much broader geographical range, all related studies are highly welcome.

The addressed topics involve the whole diversity of the numismatic spectrum: coin minting and circulation, economy, trade, finances, traditional and new methodologies in numismatic studies, archaeometric studies on coins, digital numismatics, cultural heritage preservation, coin forgeries, etc.

The chronological scope is naturally set on the time after the invention of the coins – from Antiquity and the Middle Ages up to the modern era, although all knowledge about diverse forms of trade and exchange from the prehistory onwards are also to be considered.

The language of publication in BulgNJ is Bulgarian or English. The journal is aimed to provide bilingual standards, where all publications should have a summary in English.

Open Access Policy

BulgNJ runs on Open Journal Systems (OJS) – an open-source journal management and publishing software, freely provided by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) under the GNU General Public License.

In accordance with the general processes of democratization of knowledge and following the principles of Linked Open Data, the journal policy is to enhance the visibility, offering easy access to the scientific research.
